Description
Built during the 12th century, this remarkable Romanesque basilica has reopened for business, following a full refurbishment which restored the golden-coloured stone, whitewash and original tiles. It has the features of the important churches in the department. Its basilical layout with a central nave flanked by aisles extends into a chancel with ambulatory and radiating chapels. The pyramid-shaped chevet is decorated with modillions and rose windows. The portal is sculpted with scenes from Christ’s childhood. Inside, there are more than 250 Romanesque capitals, including those decorated with narrative scenes, a statue of the nursing Virgin and an Annunciation of Philippe de Champaigne.
