The original artisan workshop for the production of automatons was opened in 1946 by the EMA family, for the production of advertising automatons for the decoration of shop window displays. The museum opened on the 8th of December 1991, originally called "Le Renaissance des Automates".
Officially recognised as a public utility in 2007, the "Musée des Automates" (Automatons Museum) is currently managed by the ASG-EMA Foundation.
The museum still produces advertising automatons for shop windows... which can be hired for events (Christmas, trade shows etc.). The museums automatons are regularly replaced.
