Description
Established in the 10th century under the orders of the abbot of Cluny on the lands of the Sires of Beaujeu, the village of Salles experienced a real boom in 1301 with the arrival of the Benedictine nuns who were elevated to the rank of Chanoinesses Comtesses during the 18th century. These women of the high nobility left an indisputable legacy both in religious and secular life.
A jewel of the Beaujolais in the process of being listed and an exceptional geosite, the Prieuré is one of the most exclusive sites in the Beaujolais region. On its own, it represents 1000 years of architecture and makes it possible to appreciate the know-how and creativity of the stone workers.
The Musée du Prieuré offers a journey through time and the arts at its permanent exhibition. Whether for enthusiasts, families, or the simply curious, this museum caters for all audiences.
