Description
"Megève’s permanent population has reached 3,889 inhabitants, but the commune is up-graded into the category of towns with a population of 40- 80,000 inhabitants due to its 40,000 tourist beds. Megève has a dynamic economic activity with 1,053 businesses of which 568 shops and 45 working farms. The commune is nestled in the heart of two ski areas: the Evasion Mont-Blanc area and Les Portes du Mont-Blanc.Catherine Jullien-Brèches has been the Mayor of the commune since 2014. For administrative purposes Megève is attached to the region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, to the department of Haute Savoie, to the precinct of Bonneville and district (canton) of Sallanches. It is a member of the Community of communes the Pays du Mont-Blanc. The commune sets up innovative policies, notably concerning environmental issues, for which it has been awarded the Mariannes d’or (prize of excellence for French municipalities) three times, in 2001, 2011 and 2015.
