Description
Initially based on opening in 1984, in a wing of the Palais Saint-Pierre when the City of Lyon decided to assemble a collection of contemporary art, macLYON relocated in 1995 to the Cité Internationale, a vast architectural complex stretching between the Rhône and Tête d’Or Park. The museum–designed by Renzo Piano, the architect of the entire complex–is a dialogue between the façade of the atrium of the Palais de la Foire, designed by Charles Meysson in the 1920s, and its contemporary portion in red brickwork. For this 17th edition of the Biennale, macLYON is showing a set of works involving human relations– between friends, families or lovers.
Programm :
- Activation of Lorraine de Sagazan's artwork at the macLYON; Sept, 21 3pm and 5pm;
The result of a collaboration between director Lorraine de Sagazan and scenographer Anouk Maugein, and created from hundreds of testimonies, the installation Monte di Pietà ('Mount of Piety') seeks to reveal the pain that injustice can cause. The objects that make up the installation, labeled and recorded, are linked to traumatic memories, reminding their owners of the wrongs they have suffered. An open work, the installation is activated by performances during which the stories of the objects are put into words by Laura Vazquez and interpreted by the actors of the La Brèche company.
