Description

The exhibition journey "Grace and Silence" will begin in the museum's permanent collection, where visitors can rediscover the nine works by Philippe de Champaigne preserved in Grenoble. These include the sublime Saint John the Baptist, The Dead Christ on the Cross, Louis XIV, the Day after His Coronation, Receiving the Oath of His Brother Monsieur, Duke of Anjou [...], and The Portrait of Louis XIII (on loan from the Banque de France).

To complement this journey, a display will feature around forty rarely exhibited 17th-century French drawings from the museum’s collection. Works by Champaigne and his students will be shown alongside those of Charles Le Brun and Laurent de La Hyre.

In parallel, the exhibition Pierre Buraglio: After... With... Around... According to... Philippe de Champaigne will be presented.

Pierre Buraglio has been a prominent figure in the French art scene since the early 1960s. During a residency at the museum in summer 2024, he created drawings inspired by Philippe de Champaigne’s paintings. This exhibition marks the first in a series of encounters between classical and contemporary artists, part of a new cycle of invitations titled In Dialogue.
