A conference dedicated to the "Flemish Primitives", who paved the way for a certain form of modernity in art. This great school of European painting, which preceded and heralded the Renaissance, marked a decisive turning point in perspective, illusionist space, oil technique and the development of psychological portraiture...
While Melchior Broederlam initiated the Flanders School, three great names laid the foundations of Flemish art in the first decades of the 15th century: Jan Van Eyck, Robert Campin and Rogier van Der Weyden.
Using appropriate and beautiful forms, these artists expressed their thoughts, faith and love, but also their admiring amazement at the universe, which they were learning to discover and transpose into their works. Goossen van Der Weyden, author of the Dymphne polyptych, was a worthy successor.
