Description
Visitors follow in the footsteps left by papermakers over the centuries.
It's the magic of the sheet we see being made in the ancient vat, the sound of the huge machine being set in motion, the passage through the reconstructed chapel.
Machines, objects, documents and videos alternate, helping to adapt the discovery to the visitor's age.
Paper is also used to explore themes such as the forest, water, the inventions of Montgolfier and Canson, and paternalism....
An inanimate museum, no; a living museum, yes...
On the practical side:
A 10 to 12-minute video on papermaking;
10 rooms in the birthplace of the Montgolfier brothers, presenting the history of papermaking and the evolution of techniques over more than 3 centuries;
A 500m2 vaulted workshop with animated machines and hand papermaking demonstrations.
