Description

The Atelier de Soierie is a privately-owned production site which, since its creation in 1993, has never ceased to pass on its know-how of excellence. That's why it's open to the public from Monday to Saturday, allowing visitors to see work of international renown.

This production site, the only one of its kind in France, perpetuates by hand the silk printing processes of the ‘Lyonnaise’ frame and plate. With 3,000 frames, some dating back to 1950, and 12,000 carved wooden boards, the oldest of which are two hundred years old, the company combines tradition and modernity to produce a wide variety of projects. Specialising in art reproduction, it makes silk squares and scarves for museums and art foundations around the world. It also perpetuates the technique of hand-painting on velvet panne in the tradition of the many Lyonnais workshops that abounded on the slopes of the Croix-Rousse in the last century.

The Atelier de Soierie also welcomes textile enthusiasts for introductory courses in silk hand-painting and Lyon-style frame printing.
