Wine tourism
From the Rhône Valley to the Alps, from the volcanic hillsides to the foothills of the Massif Central, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is a first-class wine tourism region. Ten vineyards, numerous grape varieties, multiple appellations, and great wines offer an exceptional wine list.
With 12 territories labelled “Vignobles et Découvertes”, more than 1 000 wine cellars and estates open to the public and wine routes, the regional offer is dense and diversified. From the most famous vineyards, such as Beaujolais and Côtes du Rhône, to little-known terroirs off the beaten track, there are a thousand and one ways to discover the world of wine from the most traditional to the most unusual, from the most natural to the most sporting.

The Beaujolais
Between the Massif Central and the Saône, plain lies the Beaujolais vineyard. Festive wines, new wines, wines of character, these vines of international renown produce 12 appellations, including ten very famous "crus": Morgon, Fleurie, Julienas, Brouilly, Chiroubles...
Going up and down hills, rows of vines, and hilltop villages, the roads guide visitors through a terroir rich in promise, multiplying the stops and experiences. Explore and relax in the vine and wine park at Hameau Duboeuf or discover oenology during a sensory tour of the Château de Pizay's Oenotheque. Excursion to the vineyards of Clochemerle guided by a winegrower and lunch on the grass or a segway ride on the heights of Chiroubles.The Beaujolais region is infinitely discoverable.
The Rhone valley
Côte-Rôtie, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage, Cornas… Some of the greatest names, appellations known across the borders, have built the reputation of the Rhône Valley in the world of wine. The topography, landscapes, climates, grape varieties and centuries of know-how have shaped the vineyards from Lyon to Valence. Discovering all its attractions is a great adventure.
Located 30 minutes from Lyon, the Caveau du Château, created by the Maison Guigal, is a perfect introduction to the journey with its museum space. Through a large selection of objects from the family collection, this place relates the history of the vines, oenology and family cooperage.
Further south, on the banks of the Rhône, Tain-l'Hermitage is a must for wine lovers. The tasting school of the famous Maison M. Chapoutier is a privileged place to " discover wine differently ". On the agenda: initiations, tastings, food, and wine pairings.
Another historic estate, the Maison Delas Frères, consolidates its prestige through the quality of its reception services. A unique wine tourism experience in a place with resolutely modern architecture!
Terres de Syrah, the wine tourism service of the Cave de Tain-l'Hermitage, also offers a rich menu of activities, strolls and visits the winegrowers. Thus, from cellars to estates, stories, atmospheres, and experiences succeed one another.
In Ardèche, the wine tastings offered by Néovinum at Aven d'Orgnac add a touch of the unusual. It is not everywhere that you can taste the finest Côtes du Vivarais wines 50 metres underground! This natural cellar provides a taste of the extraordinary.
Other flavours await visitors to the Domaine de Montine. Here, in the heart of the Drôme Provençale, an alliance of wine and truffles tells another story of the land.
Wine tourism and the "Vignobles et Découvertes" label
The national "Vignobles & Découvertes" label created in 2009 promotes wine tourism destinations. Its attribution reflects the dynamism of the territories which commit themselves to offer a rich and varied set of complementary services. All the players are committed to sharing the wine-growing culture in their region with visitors and optimising all the experiences: visits to the cellars and estates, tastings, workshops and initiations, good food and wine pairings, nights in the heart of the vineyards, etc.
Auvergne Rhône Alpes currently has 12 territories with the "Vignobles et Découvertes" label, a guarantee of the quality and maturity of the regional offer.
Savoie Wines
The vineyard of the wines of Savoy includes 3 PDOs: Seyssel, Roussette de Savoie and Vin de Savoie. These appellations are available in numerous geographical names reflecting the diversity of these wines, unknown for a long time.
The vine is, however, anchored for centuries in these alpine landscapes. Everywhere, the passion of the profession is passed on from generation to generation. The family estates welcome visitors for pleasant moments.
Domaine de Méjane is a former 18th century wine estate on the slopes of the Bauges Massif between Chambéry and Albertville. Since its renovation, it has produced PDO wines to be enjoyed facing the mountains.
The Cave du Prieuré offers to explore the vineyards and hillsides on an electric scooter for a recreational approach and to enjoy nature! An opportunity to discover the local grape varieties and the village of Jongieux near the Lac du Bourget, with the bonus of a tasting of the estate's wines.
The Château de Ripaille on the shores of Lake Geneva is one of the places not to miss. Centuries of history, a unique heritage, an impressive natural site, this former residence of the Dukes of Savoy remains a prestigious wine estate famous for its famous white wine: the Chasselas de Ripaille.
Auvergne wines
If Auvergne is famous for its volcanic waters, it is sometimes less famous for its wines. However, there are two AOCs that attest to their quality: Saint-Pourçain and Côtes d'Auvergne. The vineyard, which has a long wine-growing tradition, covers both sides of the Allier River, once an important trade route. Today, this axis is the focus of a beautiful wine tourism route.
In the heart of the Saint-Pourçain vineyards, between Moulins and Vichy, the Domaine des Bérioles thematic tours allow you to discover the characteristics of a unique terroir, renowned since the Middle Ages.
Between the Allier and the Puys chain south of Clermont-Ferrand, authentic and confidential estates produce volcanic, organic, and delightful wines. Many opportunities are offered to wine lovers to share their passion: picnic or evening stroll at the Domaine d'Annie Sauvat, friendly stopover at the Domaine de Miolanne wine bar or discovery of the Desprat Saint Verny cellar promoting the work of 62 winemakers.
Sparkling wines
For lovers of bubbles, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes is not to be underestimated. Synonymous with festivities and celebrations, Clairette de Die or Cerdon de Bugey are naturally sparkling wines produced in very specific terroirs.
Made using a local method ancestral perpetuated for generations, Clairette de Die is the main production of the Diois winegrowers. Most of the producers are grouped around Jaillance, the Cave de Die. This dynamic cooperative is the leader in AOC sparkling wines (excluding Champagne). Its Museobulles is a museum trail dedicated to the history of the cellar and the fermentation methods. A fascinating visit that ends at the bubble bar for a tasting!
The Cerdon de Bugey shares this joyful and festive character and the traditional values that govern its production. The Lingot-Martin family business knows how to make you appreciate its aromas through the diversity of its vintages.
