Description
An observatory enables walkers to discover the birds associated with this type of environment. Also, throughout the year, guided tours are organized by Dombes tourisme. Throughout the year, the site plays host to numerous species of birds (ducks, waders, etc.).
The Domaine de Vernange was awarded the "ENS" label by the Département de l'Ain in 2016, and is located in the communes of Saint-André-de-Corcy, Monthieux and Civrieux. True natural and landscaped jewels of the Ain department, sites with the ENS "Espaces naturels sensibles" label are managed in such a way as to preserve the biodiversity they host, and developed for opening to the public (barring exceptions due to the fragility of the environments).
Owned by the Fondation Pierre Vérots and the Commune de Saint-André-de-Corcy for the protection of habitats and wildlife, the Domaine de Vernange ENS is managed by the Fédération Départementale des Chasseurs de l'Ain.
The site also adjoins another ENS: "Le domaine de Praillebard", owned by the Pierre Vérots Foundation.
Covering an area of 108 hectares, the Vernange estate is home to the agrosystem typical of the Dombes region.
The long-term preservation of the site's ecological and landscape wealth is essential. The management plan also provides for extensive fish farming in certain ponds on the Domaine de Vernange.
